Tell the full moisture story
Tell the provider when the water appeared, how long materials stayed wet, what was done to dry the area and whether the leak has been repaired. Photos and repair records can help explain the sequence without disturbing the affected materials.
Drying and remediation are different questions
Drying addresses moisture. Remediation addresses affected materials and cleanup. Ask which work is needed, who will handle it and whether damaged drywall, flooring or cabinets must be repaired afterward. A single quote may not include all of those tasks.
Questions for a water-related mold concern
- Is the moisture source still active?
- Could adjacent materials also be affected?
- Does the proposal include drying or only mold cleanup?
- Who is responsible for reconstruction?
- What evidence will document completion?
Before an appointment
Keep the affected area undisturbed while seeking advice. Do not assume the absence of visible growth establishes the condition behind a wall. If water came from sewage or contaminated flooding, tell the provider before discussing a cleanup visit.
